Verified Research Lab is an independent evidence practice for computer systems and software research.

Verified Research Lab examines the evidence behind consequential claims in computer systems and software. We rerun reported results, build independent tests, and publish conclusions limited to the conditions examined.

Our initial work focuses on research with papers and computational artifacts available for inspection. Engagements may be private or designed for a public, versioned report.

The review practice

Technical responsibility stays visible.

VRL evaluates claims and evidence, not the researchers or organizations behind them. A negative or inconclusive result is reported with the same care as a supported result.

Who conducts the work

Evaluators are selected for the technical area and method in scope. The engagement record identifies relevant competence, review roles, conflicts, and any limits on expertise.

How responsibility is assigned

One evaluator owns the test record and conclusion. High-stakes public findings receive an independent sign-off focused on traceability, scope, and conclusion language.

What is disclosed

Public reports identify sponsorship, material relationships, reviewer roles, evidence availability, publication status, and correction history.

Limits on every review

A review may cover a complete paper. These rules define how far its conclusions can reach and how the work is conducted:

  • Findings address the paper's claims, methods, and artifacts. They do not judge the researchers behind them.
  • Conclusions extend only to the evidence and conditions examined.
  • Sponsors cannot direct the review methods or findings.
